Hunting group frowns upon feral pigs release

Posted Tue Sep 4, 2007 9:49am AEST

A Queensland hunting group says it does not approve of the movement of feral pigs close to cities.

The ABC has been told some hunters are releasing pigs close to Rockhampton, in central Queensland, so they do not have to travel so far to go shooting.

Wayne Flintham from the Australian Pig Doggers and Hunters Association says that is unacceptable.

"We really detest those sort of people doing that sort of stuff, obviously," he said.

"They're breaking the law straightaway, I think for seeding the environment back with pigs is like a $7,500 fine.

"Obviously transportation of live pigs is a fine as well ... $3,500. We frown upon this very much so. We're here to try and rid Australia of this feral pest."
