Come and hunt bighorn sheep in Alberta!

Alan Douglas Outfitting

A three hour drive northwest of Calgary, Alberta, will put you in wildlife management unit 430 which is west of Nordegg, Alberta. This zone produces good, mature rams with horns that vary in size, weight, tightness and drop. These rams have to be 4/5 curl to be legal. You can expect all shapes and sizes as I have witnessed personally. We took two 8.5 year old rams in 2007.

The previous outfitter had taken many classical bighorn rams 33-38” long with lamb tips, also a few heavy broomed rams, with an average score of 165. 180 class rams are rare, but have been spotted. With the parks and no hunting wilderness areas so close, anything is very possible.Hunting begins in September.

The hunt will be 15 days including transportation to and from the Calgary airport.Wall tents with stoves will be placed at two different drainages,a small day’s ride from the staging area. We will day hunt from there with horses and mules and if necessary, we may backpack into rugged terrain, where we will spike camp which may involve strenuous hiking and climbing as it can be physically and mentally challenging. The hunts will consist of1 guide to 1 hunter with a wrangler to help around camp. The meals will vary depending on each client’s preference with a variety of breakfasts, bag lunches and hearty suppers.

The price of the hunt includes transportation to and from the airport, good food, nice, clean camp, dependable mules, horses, equipment, field care of meat and trophy preparation, with 100% effort. I require 50% deposit at the time of booking, and the balance by cash, certified cheque or money order due by May 1 of the year hunting. No personal cheques accepted. The deposit is non-refundable, but may be transferred to are placement hunter, with prior approval from me. The hunt does not include crating or shipping of trophy and license fees, trophy fees. For insurance purposes, the waiver, assumption of risk and indemnity agreement must be signed. I have been actively hunting and guiding for over 25 years with plenty of bighorn and dall sheep rams taken. I have numerous contacts & clients who are willing to be references for me.
