A bison herd in north-western Alberta will lose nearly half its numbers to a government-licensed cull starting September. The Alberta government is issuing licenses for a special bison hunt of the Hay-Zama herd.“The Hay-Zama bison hunt is part of Alberta’s interim strategy to manage this wood bison population,” said Ted Morton, Minister of Sustainable Resource Development. “We are working to maintain a healthy and secure bison population.” The government hopes to reduce the herd’s population from 700 to 400.
