Hawaii's hunters and anglers spend more than $154 million a year on hunting and fishing.

According to a new report, "Hunting and Fishing: Bright Stars of the American Economy," Hawaii has about 100,000 hunters and anglers who generate $14 million in state and local taxes.

The sports support 2,500 jobs and create $71 million in pay.

Nationally, 34 million sportsmen spent more than $76 billion in 2006.

Texas tops the nation with 2.6 million hunters and anglers, spending $6.6 billion, supporting 106,000 jobs and generating $1.3 billion in tax revenues.

The report was produced by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation using statistics from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The full report is available at www.nssf.org.
