Feral hogs out of control Hunters asked to kill as many pigs possible By Chris Berzas Outdoors Writer The words uttered from biologist Tony Vidrine's mouth were quite clear.
"We need to kill as many pigs as possible," he said referring to the new invaders penetrating the upper reaches of Sherburne Wildlife Management Area in the Atchafalaya Basin.
Vidrine was advising hunters to make an effort to take as many feral pigs out during the managed gun hunts for white-tailed deer.
Also, feral hogs have been reportedly increasing within and near Thistlethwaite Wildlife Management Area near Washington."We're having problems with them too," conceded Neil Lalonde, natural resource specialist with the Corps of Engineers' Indian Bayou Area in southeastern St. Landry Parish. "We're telling hunters to shoot them during the gun hunts for deer.
According to Emile LeBlanc, coordinator of Louisiana's Deer Management Assistance Program, feral hogs have populated about every Parish in Louisiana with the possible exception of Lafayette Parish.
"The fact that Lafayette Parish is surrounded by parishes with moderate hog populations suggests that it won't be long before they are there too," predicted LeBlanc.
