Red deer in Sweden

Red deer is the second largest deer in Sweden weighing up to 250 kg, only the moose is bigger. The antlers of the red deer is largest when the deer is 10-14 years old. It is unusual that Swedish deer have more than 14 spikes. There are however some very nice exceptions. The new Swedish record red stag was shot in 2006.

Red deer can be found in the south and central parts of Sweden. There are also some areas in the northern parts where they can be found.

The roar is from the end of August to the beginning of October. Hunting starts the 16th of August and ends the 31st of January.
