The caribou is the North american counterpart of Eurasian reindeer, ranges tundra in summer, winters in forests. It grazes grasses, sedges, and herbs in summer, and mosses, lichens, and fungi in the winter. They can migrate up to 1400 km twice yearly. The caribou in Canada can be divided into four species. They can vary in colour and the American forms have mainly brown coats while the European and Asian reindeer are more grey.
